I learned the hard way myself. Before I was into kayaking a large group of us rented about a
dozen yaks to go play for the day. I grew up on the water, in boats, and I kept a life jacket
handy in those days, but not on.
I jumped off of my yak to tackle someone else off of theirs. Yeah, that's how I roll.......
Anyway, the wind was prolly about 15 knots or so as we had whitecaps. I swam after my
kayak as the wind was pushing it. Problem was the wind was faster. It was funny until I
realized that I was getting tired, Luckily, I was scooped up by one of my buddies, but that
was a lessen learned. If you use up your energy chasing the yak, you're dead!
