PostSubject: Hello from Central PA   Hello from Central PA EmptyTue Oct 16, 2012 8:17 am

My name is Joe Rausa and I'll be driving in from Lititz, PA for the JCKF event this weekend. I found this site a few weeks ago and figured this was a good opportunity to get in saltwater for the first time. Recently went to a three day workweek on the way towards retirement and found kayak fishing the perfect replacement for work. Picked up a Ride 115 in June and fished local lakes, Susq river and flats the last few months. I also started building some rods (just finished two I'll use in this event, 1 - 7' spinning and 1 - 9wt fly).

I want to stop by The Kayak Fishing Store on Friday morning to gear up. Then hopefully get a line wet in the outgoing tide. If I can buddy up with anyone for Friday afternoon, that would be great. You can contact me by email at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Looking forward to a great event.

Regards,
Joe

Welcome Joe

I am going to be in the area Friday and you are welcome to join me if you are interested. I am playing the times by ear since the weather is looking snotty. I was planning on being off of the water by 2-3PM and heading to the campground.

Hi Tim:
That would be great. I appreciate the offer. I plan to arrive at the store - between 9 - 10am. Looks like Friday forecast is improving.

What species do you plan to chase? I'm hoping to get started right b4 the midnight high, fish through the am low, and after the noon high if the fish keep biting. Mostly blues/stripers, but if I get sick of them trying for some tog. If your interested I'd be happy to show you a few places they bite...atleast get you on some blues if I can

Hey Jeremy:

At present I'm not rigged for "night" fishing. However, I may remedy that early on my Friday visit to the "store" in North Wildwood.

Stripers/blues are on the top of my list. I figure to just throw artificial.

My prioirty for the weekend is to do recon for an area (Cape May County) I've never fished, so learing a few "places" is perfect for me. Are you planning to make the 6PM friday meeting at the campground? If so, I can catch up to you there.

I see you are a rod builder - I just finshed a 9wt fly, loaded with 10WF, thought I was going to toss a mile. My first cast yesterday reminded me of a 5 year-old on his inital effort with a Zebco - think I went 15' and hit the water with the half & half like I was throwing a rock. Took me a good 1/2 hr to develope technique to get the fly to land softly at a 50'. More work still needed. Love to get a 10lb blue on this rod.

Joe

Yea I'll be at the meeting, I will likely be hanging out with the native people (woody and kelly)...however my truck is pretty identifiable (assuming its fixed) with its modified m416 military trailer as a canoe trailer. Night fishing means a pole light of some sort and a headlamp. Oh and warm clothes/wetsuit. I will be concentrating on blues (I like the smaller ones for smoking...yes I keep my catch...lol) and stripers near the squid boats. There are rarely larger blues in there, but if you brave the inlet you should find some. I'll be bringing all sorts of bait for fishing, as I tend to get pretty lazy at night and want the fish to work it. I'll be brining down my 7wt to try for blues as well in the bridge lights (first rod I ever built, over a decade ago). Feel free to call my cell six oh nine, two three oh, eight two five eight if we don't run accross each other. The more I think about it the more I think I just may make a 24hr push of it...start around 8pm and just GO...LOL.

Not a problem. Sounds like Jeremy is going to be in the same neighborhood. Shoot me a PM if you want to meet up. The launch spot is about a 15 minute drive from the store depending on traffic and less than 5 minutes from the campground. At this point I am looking to do some toggin at the bridge during the noon high.

Jeremy
I'll swing by and say high if I see you out there.

Waterbug,
You probably mean Jeremy, He was the one in the Mariner slugging it out with the tide. I was supposed to go but had an unscheduled engagement with the dentist and #15, (#15 is now only a memory and the pain is gone) Very Happy

Regards,

Joe
