| Just wanted to let you guys know that the registration is now open. It has been a week and there are 50+ registered already.
the tourney will probably be capped at 130 participants.
This is shaping up to be a good season around here. Last year the bite was really hot in Salem the week before the tourney and died a bit by the tourney days and of course got rolling a week or two later.
If you haven't fished this area before, it is a fun stretch of shoreline, very rocky with lots of structure. In Salem there is a good chance at running across big surface feeds just outside winter island. Good both day and night, both trolling and casting.

| I 2nd Slappy's advice. This is bar none my favorite place to fish. This is also one of the best groups of people to fish with! We found fish last year all the way out at the last island. I'll have to look the island name up, but Remy, Lunchbox and I went father than ever and it really paid off!
This year I have my kayak Bluefin permit. If they show up like last year, it's GAME ON!!!

| probably Bakers island. That is a chunking hotspot all summer long, many of the charter boats go there and I don't think too many yakkers fish it. If you want a shot at a winner, try some chunking out there. I won't be in your division, even though you can't catch big fish on artificials, i will only be fishing the plastic. beware on those bluefin--the fish this year are showing up now at well over 200#, they are all giants now! Apparently a few smaller fish have shown over the last week, so keep your fingers crossed! | |

| Slappy, I'm currently in the Open division, but I plan to request being changed to artificial. 90% of the time I only fish buck tails and/or plastic. Thank you for the tip on Bakers Island. That's the one with the light house I believe? See you all soon. | |

| This area is a plastic tossers dream. Not too many blues around and lots of structure to throw into.
Don't get stuck on one spot, keep it moving and fish as many rocky shorelines as you can. Most of the shoreline has a shelf with a dropoff, cast on the shelf and slide down the dropoff bouncing bottom. AT night the big bass are on lobsters and crabs too, many of my biggest fish come bottom bouncing 13" hogys.
Last year the artificial division was all hogy tossers and there were probably more big fish taken on plastics than anything else. You should also check out the Hogy "Slappy Jig" which was designed by some guy I know for swimming the big plastics around the rocks.
try some O' dark thirty fishing around there. Big fish bite in the day, but you get more at night!

| Thank you for the tips Slappy! I can't wait to get up there. I started using Hogy's a few years ago after "discovering" them at NEKF. They are much more common now and I like them a lot. As for night time, I'm nocturnal and have always preferred the night bite.
This year I plan to tie a couple of drift socks to Remy's kayak so that Lunchbox and I can keep up with him. The guy is an animal! Also, Lunchbox and I will be affixing a life size seal decal on the bottom of Mullet Miller's kayak in case the Great White sightings start up again. The rest of us should have time to make the beach after the big splash.
I look forward to wetting a line with you and Captiva this year!!!

| We will need to set up a plan, the vacation is the last week of July. In years past I have always launched by the bridge to wildwood next to the fish plant. | |
