Sandy Hook Opening Day Fluke Empty
PostSubject: Sandy Hook Opening Day Fluke   Sandy Hook Opening Day Fluke EmptySun May 06, 2012 11:32 am

Sorry I couldn't make it down to the Cape for the festivities.
Did make it out to da Hook though.
It was really fogged in at 6:00 am, took my time and launched anyway as I do know the area and have a GPS.
The fog did finally lift, to be replaced by intermittent rain the rest of the day.
I can't say that the bite was hot, I fished north from Horseshoe cove up to the bug light.
Most of the action was off the Coast Guard station in about 25' of water.
Saw alot of bunker, but didn't get anything off of them.
Landed 6 fluke with 2 20" keepers.
Weird thing was hooking 2 bunkers in the mouth with a bucktail in 25' of water. In a long time fishing that has never happened to me, I've snagged plenty on lures and bucktails but never in the mouth, and I got 2 that way WTF

Nice report Herder and glad you found some fish. Maybe those bunker wanted to come home with you to witness "The Master of the Cork" in action??? That's the only explanation that I can come up with for bunker hitting a bucktail????

Have a great time at "The Classic" in NY next week!
